Justice Initiatives at BPL is partnering with community organizations and agencies to produce a series of Know Your Rights workshops. The first event in the series will focus on the Right to Vote, with an emphasis on New York and particularly on the rights of the incarcerated and formerly incarcerated to full participation in the democratic process.

These events will be livestreamed here and on the BPL YouTube channel. There will be a Q&A session at the end of the workshop and you will be able to post your questions in the livestream chat.

The Legal Action Center (LAC) uses legal and policy strategies to fight discrimination, build health equity, and restore opportunity for people with arrest and conviction records, substance use disorders, and HIV or AIDS. LAC has utilized a multi-pronged approach to achieving our mission, which includes: direct legal services, impact litigation, policy advocacy, education and training, and coalition-building. Free legal services are offered statewide.

Presenters:

Dante Apaestegui -- As a paralegal at LAC, Dante works closely with people facing discrimination due to arrest and conviction records, substance use disorders, or an HIV status.
