Bhaskar Sunkara & Matthew Schmitz reprise their October, 2024, Brooklyn Public Library debate on whether the Democratic Party's failure to secure a decisive victory with working class voters to retain the White House in 2024 is a fixable problem, or not.

Bhaskar Sunkara is president of The Nation Magazine, and founder and editor of Jacobin, which he launched in 2010 as an undergraduate at George Washington University. He has written for the New York Times, the Guardian, VICE, and the Washington Post. He lives in Brooklyn, New York.

Matthew Schmitz is the editor of Compact. Previously he was a senior editor of First Things. His essays on politics and culture have appeared in The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post, The Atlantic, and Politico. A native of O'Neill, Neb., he holds a bachelor’s in English from Princeton University and lives in New York City with his wife and four sons.
