Impossible Blossoms: A Close Look at Poetry’s Power to Foster Joy & Well-Being
An eye-opening, interactive lecture by Danielle Gasparro on the art of engaging with poems as a means to enrich our connection to the world around us and deep within us.
Join us this May for an immersive presentation by Brooklyn-based poet and teaching artist Danielle Gasparro. Part lecture, part guided discussion, this dynamic evening will instruct and inspire as Gasparro illuminates how poetry functions as both an art form on the page and a force of benevolent greatness in our everyday lives.
Qualities such as gratitude, presence, curiosity, compassion, and awe are all cultivated when we engage with literature. The more fully we understand what’s behind this “artistic alchemy” in works of verse, the more positively it can influence how—and how often—we read and write poems.
Don’t miss the chance to learn from this impassioned educator as she demonstrates how, in the words of poet Lucille Clifton, “Poetry is a matter of life, not just a matter of language.”
ARTIST BIO
Danielle Gasparro is a Brooklyn-based wordsmith, songsmith and teaching artist. She holds an MFA in poetry from New England College and a BA in creative writing with honors from Florida State University. Her poetry and essays have been published in the Daily Palette, Chronogram, Shift: A Journal of Literary Oddities, The Red Wheelbarrow, The Kudzu Review and elsewhere.
Prior to 2018, Gasparro devoted nearly twenty years to building an avid national following as an independent recording and touring singer-songwriter. The obtaining of her MFA signaled a shift in artistic focus to her long-term work as a writer, and Gasparro is currently developing a hybrid memoir that fuses poetry, nonfiction and photography.
A passionate educator, Gasparro regularly presents poetry talks and workshops in partnership with public libraries and arts and educational organizations throughout New York City and the Hudson River Valley. Learn more and enjoy writing and music samples at daniellegasparro.com.
