Grab and Go Craft Kit: Tiger - Paper Bag Puppet

Tomorrow is the International Tiger Day! It has been held on the 29th of July every year since 2010 when it was first created at the Saint Petersburg Tiger Summit. This was done to raise awareness of the decline of wild tiger numbers, leaving them on the brink of extinction and to encourage the celebration around the important work of Tiger conservation.

Materials included:   Paper bag & Pre-cut construction paper 

You may also need: Scissors, glue, crayons or black maeker

To make a paper tiger:

1. Using the pre-cut shapes, glue on the face, eyes, ears, nose, and stripes. Color in the eyes with a marker.
2. Glue the tongue and teeth under the fold of the bag (see photo!). Decorate with markers!

Be creative:

1. We included extra construction paper and a bag for you to create your own paper bag puppet. Be creative! What can you make?
2. Think about shapes – circles for eyes, triangles for noses and teeth, rectangles for stripes. You can draw the shapes and then cut them out with scissors (not included).

Early literacy tips for parents of children ages 0-5

• Read: Non-fiction books are a great way to expand children’s knowledge about the world. Use this puppet craft as a way to talk about animals your child is interested 
• Play: Providing props for children to tell a story as they play is one way to help them build narrative skills. You may ask a question or two that helps them build on the story.
