Fraunces Tavern® Museum and The Center for Brooklyn History Present: America's 250th – Two Sides of the River
A One-Day Professional Development Experience for Educators
Join Fraunces Tavern Museum and the Center for Brooklyn History for a special one-day professional learning opportunity in honor of the upcoming 250th anniversary of the American Revolution. This unique program, America’s 250th: Two Sides of the River, will explore the pivotal events of the Battle of Brooklyn and the Continental Army’s daring Retreat to Manhattan, offering rich historical context and classroom-ready resources.
The day begins at 10:00 AM at Fraunces Tavern Museum, where educators will tour the historic site to learn about Lower Manhattan’s role in the early Revolutionary War. Discover how the Battle of Brooklyn shaped the fight for independence and examine how strategy—and a great deal of luck—played a crucial role in the retreat across the East River.
Following the morning session, participants will travel together by train to the Center for Brooklyn History, where lunch will be provided. The afternoon session will take place in the Othmer Library reading room, where educators will explore original artifacts related to the American Revolution in Brooklyn, acquire practical teaching strategies, and participate in hands-on primary source analysis.
The day concludes at 3:00 PM at the Center for Brooklyn History.
Participating educators will receive 6 CTLE credits.
Don’t miss this immersive experience that brings both sides of the East River, and the Revolution, to life.
