What happens when the highest court in the land no longer represents the country at large? Among the experts sounding the alarm over the Supreme Court’s hard swerve to the right is Michael Waldman, president and CEO of the Brennan Center. Waldman served on the Presidential Commission on the Supreme Court, convened by President Biden in 2021, which analyzed various reforms to the Court including expanding the number of justices and instituting term limits. In his recent book, The Supermajority: How the Supreme Court Divided America, he outlines the unsettling ramifications of our current trajectory. Waldman shares his expert views in a conversation led by Jesse Wegman, New York Times’ editorial board member and another leading expert on our democracy. Wegman regularly pens opinions about the state of our government institutions and is the author of Let the People Pick the President: The Case for Abolishing the Electoral College. Join us for an animated discussion of the dangers that lurk when the nation’s scales of justice teeter at the highest level.
