For African Americans, naming has always been a fraught topic. Many still carry the last names of enslavers. Others embrace names as a way to claim identity and joy. Join us for a screening of the short documentary Parker, co-directed by Catherine Hoffman and Sharon Liese, which explores one Black family’s naming journey. The screening is followed by a discussion about the legacy and meaning of African American naming traditions.
