Artist Spotlight: Beatrice Pediconi
Join us for a discussion with visual artist Beatrice Pediconi, whose video works Alien (2016) and Untitled 2015 are projected onto Central Library's facade as part of the summer Cinema Ephemera program. Pediconi is an Italian-born visual artist based in New York whose interdisciplinary practice includes drawing, photography, painting, video, and installation.
Pediconi's artwork investigates the dissolution of boundaries. It contends with the difficult search for balance and the resulting strength that arises when one passes from one state to another, in natural, physical or existential processes. Sustained by experimentation and the use of water, a canvas impossible to completely control, she explores questions related to universal notions of flux, displacement and transformation. Made with oil paint, honey, solvent and salt in liquid suspension, Pediconi’s entrancing moving-image works Alien (2016) and Untitled 2015, when seen through the lens of our current global pandemic, evoke molecular and strange worlds as well as themes of cultural closeness and division.
The conversation will delve into her artistic practice, including these and other works.
Registered audience members will receive details about how to access and view the program by email on the day of the event.
