Shapes of Care: A Multi-Modal Making Experience for All, Centering Caregivers
Are you an artist and a caregiver? This space is for you.
Join choreographer and visual artist Cara Hagan for a restorative workshop designed specifically for artist-caregivers. Whether you're caring for children, elders, or loved ones of any age, you're invited into a grounding circle that blends gentle movement (no experience needed), reflective writing, and visual art-making.
Inspired by multi-modal expressive arts therapy, this session centers process over product, offering space to reconnect with your creative self and be in community with others who understand the balancing act of caregiving and artistry.
Childcare will be provided, so you can fully step into this experience for yourself. Children are also welcome to participate.
This workshop is presented in partnership with JACK Arts and the Brooklyn Public Library for Arts & Culture, as part of the upcoming performance of Mama Piranha.
PLEASE NOTE: Each participant must register individually. If you are attending with a child, that child must also be registered separately so we have an accurate headcount of all attendees.
About Mama Piranha
Mama Piranha invites audiences into the liminal space between dreams and waking life. Caught in the vivid haze of hypnagogia, a woman navigates identity, loss, reclamation, and the shifting terrain of motherhood. Written, directed, and performed by Cara Hagan, this multidisciplinary performance asks: Are the visions of her dreamscape fleeting imagination, or deep truths rising to the surface?
Catch Mama Piranha at JACK—a Brooklyn-based performance space centering experimental art and social justice—from June 12th–14th, 2025.
This programming is made possible in part by public funds from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the City Council and Member Crystal Hudson.
