NoteOn verso: "Oldest Catholic Church, 1836; not the first parish (which is that of St. James Pro-Cathedral) but the oldest Catholic church building. It is one of few consecrated churches in the Diocese of Brooklyn. A bishop, in a long ceremony almost never performed now, destined the structure to be irreplaceable, never demolished by human means. Such buildings were always of stone, according to traditions dating back from Old Testament days. The blue and gold interior is remarkably beautiful." Title from inscription on verso; supplied partially by cataloger.
