Inscription (2223): "Borough Hall, begun 1836, finished 1849, [formerly] City Hall for the Independent City of Brooklyn, which received its charter in 1834. The Greek Revival architecture was best expressed in public buildings like this. In 1847, as a result of a fire, the original wood cupola was replaced with the present cast iron form and a fireproof copper roof was added. The exterior and colonnade are of Tuckahoe marble." 2215, 2222, and 2218 include pedestrians and automobiles. 2223 is not dated.
