Yesterday, the day it was opened, they were driven by Mrs. Simmons' granddaughter, Mrs. Arline S. Brough of the Hotel St. George, through the Brooklyn-Battery Tunnel. They are shown paying the toll to [African-American] Bert Smith of 397 Adelphi St., on completion of their crossing."
