  • SummaryCaption: "Acting on the precept that for every tree cut down in Brooklyn a replacement should be planted, the Brevoort Savings Bank, having cleared a space at 92nd St. and 3rd Ave for a parking lot, proffers a tree to the Brooklyn Public Library's Fort Hamilton Branch which is about to be renovated. Here tree grower Herman Combe of Combe Bros., who have been growing trees in Brooklyn for 40 years, recommends a Japanese red maple to Miss Frances Libby, branch librarian. This gesture by the bank was in recognition of the Bay Ridge Community Council's 'Operation Tree-Plant' which urges replacement for any tree lost whether by way of progress or otherwise." The image is not dated.
