Caption for image at left (dated July 31/40): "Beecher Turns Around: The statue of Henry Ward Beecher, Brooklyn's famous Civil War preacher, was moved today from the site it has occupied for nearly 50 years, facing Borough Hall, to a new spot 145 feet away. When renovation of Borough Hall Park is completed the statue will be placed in another site, facing Brooklyn Bridge Plaza." Caption for image at right (dated Sep 13 1949): "New Move Coming Up: Statue of Henry Ward Beecher as it appeared July 11, 1940, roped and ready for hauling 145 feet from original location just in front of Borough Hall to present spot."
