  • SummaryThe lower half of a Bernard Ratzer map of the City of New York surveyed in 1766 and 1767, published in January 1776, and used by Lord Percy during the Battle of Long Island in August 1776. Lord Percy annotated the map in red ink to mark positions of the American forts and troops and the advance of British troops. The northern, Manhattan section of the map is not included. At the bottom of the map is an engraved image originally painted by Thomas Davies showing New York around 1760, entitled: A Southwest view of the City of New York, taken from the Governours Island at. Map captioned: London, published according to Act of Parliament Jan., 12, 1776, by Jefferys & Faden, corner of St. Martins Lane, Charing Cross.
