SummaryAnnouncement: "New ferry to Long Island to commence Saturday, 1st August, 1795. The subscribers beg leave to inform their fellow citizens that a new ferry is established from Catharine Slip, near the shipyards, across to a new stairs, near Mr. Sands Rope Walk, Long Island. They have, at a very considerable expense, provided safe and convenient boats and will use their utmost endeavours to make them as extensively useful to the public as possible. They have long seen the great inconvenience in passing horses and carriages over the present or old ferry on account of the crowd who frequent the fly market and streets adjacent to the stairs. They flatter themselves that the new ferry will be found so much more convenient for travellers coming down or across the Island, as well as to the inhabitants of the upper part of this city, and particularly those crossing horses and carriages as will induce them to encourage and support it. Furman & Hunt. N.B. The new Utricht Stage will start every day in the week, Sundays excepted, at 8 o'clock in the morning, from the new ferry stairs. A few ferrymen wanted; none need apply but sober, honest men."
