  • SummaryCaption: "New Washington memorial--Recalling that in the hectic days of the Revolution the only road south of what is now Fulton St. to Red Hook was Red Hook Lane and an Indian trail, and that this route was followed in the evaculation of his army by General Washington on Aug. 29, 1776, after the Battle of Brooklyn, [a] plaque was unveiled today. Gift of the Manufacturers Trust Company to Brooklyn, it is mounted on the Pearl St. side of the bank's Fulton St. branch, where Red Hook Lane began. Left to right: Charles T. Metcalf, branch manager, Mrs. Metcalf, Borough Historian James A. Kelly and Frank G. Nash, assistant secretary of the bank."
