Memories MatterAn East New York Pop-Up Museum
Memories Matter is a pop-up museum located inside of the Euclid Avenue subway station in East New York. The pop-up invites you to take a closer look at this Brooklyn neighborhood's past and to dream about the possibilities for its future. Through a partnership between the East New York Community Land Trust and BPL's Center for Brooklyn History, East New York residents of all ages spent the past year together in community workshops learning about local history and making art. Their work is featured throughout Memories Matter in bright floral displays and map collages. The exhibition also features historical photographs of the neighborhood and images from community newspapers The East New Yorker and The Link, as well as excerpts from interviews with neighborhood residents.
These community art pieces and historic images invite us to reflect on where we've been, and like the thousands of people in this train station every day, consider where we might go next. Memories Matter is a reminder of the strength of the East New York community and acknowledges the role we all play in shaping our Brooklyn neighborhoods.
