Yoga & Poetry: Jeremy Sigler Yoga & Poetry: Jeremy Sigler Yoga & Poetry: Jeremy Sigler BPL Presents

Please bring your own yoga mat. Doors open at 9:00 am. Class starts at 9:30 am sharp.

Imagine starting your yoga class with the wise words of your instructor, who calls out a pose or two, and the pose is followed by a poem read live by its author. Yoga & Poetry is a new initiative of the Brooklyn Public Library that features yoga instruction paired with the added joy of live poetry. The series will curate major living poets, who will appear onsite to read their work. This combination creates an atmosphere of wakefulness that makes yoga and poetry the quintessential way to do both.

This month's featured poet is Jeremy Sigler, whose most recent collection of poems is titled My Vibe (Spoonbill Books). Sigler's first two collections of poetry, To and To (1998) and Mallet Eyes (2000), were published by Left Hand Books. These were followed by Crackpot Poet (Black Square Editions) in 2010. Sigler has worked as John Ashbery's secretary, taught at Yale University School of Arts, and served as an editor for the Swiss art journal Parkett. In 2006, Sigler was awarded a Lannan Foundation Poetry residency in Marfa. He recently coedited Carl Andre: Sculpture as Place 1958-2010, a full-career retrospective monograph on the poet-sculptor, co-published in 2014 by Dia Art Foundation and Yale University Press.

Previously featured poets include Yusef Komunyakaa, Bob Holman, Scott Hightower, Armando Jaramillo and Ana Božičević.

Yoga & Poetry is made possible in part by the Poetry Foundation.
