BPL Presents

Share Your Story

Have you been displaced by extreme weather events or forced to relocate from another country due to environmental change or disaster? Photographer Genesis Báez welcomes you to share your story.

Stories of climate crisis have become an important part of her work. In her artistic research, Báez has gathered personal accounts of victims of Hurricane Maria that struck Puerto Rico on September 20, 2017, the destructive effects of which are still strongly felt now in what has become a protracted recovery process.

There are those among us who must leave their homes because of the effects of climate change and global warming, whether these are sudden or long-term changes to local environments and communities. These conditions include drought and forest fire, hurricane, flooding or sea level rise, and desertification, among others.

Meet with the artist and an oral historian to be interviewed. To participate, you can be from anywhere in the world. Your story will become part of the Brooklyn Public Library’s oral history project, Our Streets, Our Stories.

Space is limited and reservations are required.

Each interview lasts 30 minute, and the program runs from 11am to 6pm. We will be in touch with registrants to schedule your time slot sometime between 11am and 6pm.

Thank you for sharing your story!
