Dr. Vishakha N. Desai is President Emerita of Asia Society and senior Advisor for Global Affairs to the President of Columbia University where she also teaches in the graduate program on Global Thought.
Howard French teaches at the Graduate School of Journalism, Columbia University and is the author of Everything Under the Heavens: How the Past helps shape China’s Push for Global Power, Knopf: New York, 2017, China’s Second Continent: How a Million Migrants are Building a New Empire in Africa, Knopf: New York, 2014.
Jiayang Fan, Staff Writer, The New Yorker, writes frequently on China, U.S.-China Relations and Chinese American issues.
Arthur R. Kroeber is founding partner and head of research at Gavekal Dragonomics, a China-focused economic research consultancy with offices in Hong Kong and Beijing. He also edits the firm's flagship publication, China Economic Quarterly. Before founding Dragonomics in 2002, he worked for 15 years as a financial and economic journalist in China and other Asian countries. His book China's Economy: What Everyone Needs to Know is forthcoming from Oxford University Press (2016).

In this four part conversation series, Dr. Vishakha N. Desai brings together scholars, writers, artists and activists to spark new thinking about rise of Asia and its implications for the world. Designed to explore timely issues from a broader historical and cultural perspectives, the series will focus on rise of China, perceptions and misperceptions of Muslim cultures, issues of rising wealth in Asia, and the role of Asian Americans in redefining cultures.
