This event is for teens aged 13-19, and requires registration. This hands-on knife skills workshop for teens introduces essential techniques while exploring how cooking connects to environmental justice. Participants will learn how proper knife skills can reduce food waste, make the most of fresh ingredients, and support more sustainable, thoughtful food choices, empowering them to see everyday cooking as a way to care for their communities and the planet.
Erika Mayol is a Brooklyn-based culinary educator and the owner of Chop Cook Cake, a recreational cooking school rooted in creativity, culture, and connection. Inspired by a lively childhood kitchen filled with shared meals and global flavors, Erika brings warmth, energy, and a passion for teaching young people how to cook with confidence and purpose.
This program is made possible through the generous support of the Greenpoint Community Environmental Fund.

Join retired elementary school educator and urban gardener Leslie Mireille Fiske in hands-on, kid friendly gardening activities suitable for 2nd through 5th grade children. The children will be exploring, observing, planting, harvesting and sampling a variety of herbs, flowers and vegetables through the spring into summer growing season. Activities will take place on the library’s roof-top demonstration garden.
This program is for children in 2nd-5th grade. Online registration is required.

Come explore North Brooklyn’s industrial past and present. Learn about the toxic chemicals and industries that led to the current EPA investigation of the Meeker Avenue Plume, an area with underground chemicals leaking poisonous air into homes and businesses.
Meet at the NE corner of McGolrick Park (Nassau & Monitor). Our route traverses areas of the city where sidewalks are crumbling or nonexistent. Closed toed shoes are recommended. Route is approximately 1.5 miles long.
