Our Popular Library is a great place to access both recent and archived newspapers, magazines and academic journals. You can also catch up on the latest news or chat with our staff who regularly assist students, academics and lifelong learners research Brooklyn and New York City’s historical events through our archived collections. Located on Central Library's second floor balcony, here are some of the materials and services you’ll find:
- A wide assortment of popular magazines and newspapers, as well as many scholarly journals. This also includes World Language magazines.
- DVDs, music CDs, and audiobooks (including learning language CDs) are available to borrow or use elsewhere in the Library.
- Our microfilm reader allows users to search for archived periodicals no longer in print form. We hold the largest collection of archived, out-of-print Brooklyn newspapers titles, and several decades’ worth of archived issues of the NY Daily News, the New York Post and The New York Times.
- A scanner and typewriter for public use, and New York City phone books for reference purposes.
