Art Heals Flatbush Exhibition

Using art and affirmations to heal our community and bring us together!

The Art Heals Flatbush mural project aims to use art and affirmations to promote self-confidence and literacy for all. This project will use anti-oppressive images and words to raise social awareness, and positive reinforcement in people from all walks of life.. The mural and affirmations are meant to promote the love of reading while introducing youth to art.

Flatbush Library in partnership with local Brooklyn curator Jeff Beler of the Underhills Walls Mural Project and P.S.9 murals, local artist Albertus Joseph, My Life In Yellow, Justin WInslow of Winslowworld and Marco Santini to create these community murals.

Our community has been through a lot during the Covid-19 pandemic. Many of our residents have been put under an enormous amount of stress. Many library patrons were unable to gain access to library resources, though many patrons have been able to utilize our online library resources.

Our community and our organization are adjusting to our new normal. Developing new and innovative ways in which we can continue to provide services to the public in a safe manner.

The Art Heals Project is an innovative way in which we can provide our public with the services and programs during this pandemic. As our city re-opens and recovers our hope is to continue to be a beacon of hope and access for all in our community.
