"World of Corn" is a free, communal meal and discussion focusing on the production, distribution, and consumption of corn. During the event Carolina Saavedra will present a brief history of corn from its indigenous roots to its place of primacy in U.S. agriculture. Afterwards, activist Yajaira Saavedra will explain and demonstrate the traditional method of making tortillas and speak about the social and cultural importance of corn in Mexico, specifically within indigenous communities.

This is a participatory and interactive event. All participants will get to try their hand at making tortillas from balls of dough. Also, participants will be able to engage in the general conversation by responding to questions posed by the presenters. Of course, everyone will get to enjoy the tortillas they have made as well as some other deliciously prepared food.
