fitness yoga and meditation

Please, join us for weekly yoga sessions presented by Greenpoint Library. The 26/2 Practice is perfect for beginners and those looking to ground their practice. It has been transforming lives around the world for decades. Traditionally it is practiced in a heated room, but this is not necessary. The practice consists of the same 26 Hatha Yoga poses and two breathing exercises practiced in the same order every time. Why? Because the entire body is addressed top to bottom, systematically opening, lengthening, and strengthening both body and mind. Improving flexibility, building bone density, reducing stress, boosting cardiovascular capacity and mental focus. The class is led through simple straightforward verbal instruction – a little bit like the children’s game Simon Says - building a trust in our own mind body connection rather than placing the focus on copying others. This helps us stay safe and facilitates an open-eye moving meditation. We learn about ourselves through a physical understanding of how our bodies move through space centered around the spine inspired by the breath.

What do you need? Yourself, 90 minutes and an internet connection!  This is a live class through Zoom and encourages participants to keep their cameras on (but not required) allowing for a real in person interactive experience.

RECOMMENDATION FOR FIRST TIMERS! Please arrive 10 minutes before the scheduled class time for yoga and zoom practice tips!

PLEASE NOTE: To honor and support the meditation and physical learning process of all participants the Zoom Room will be closed to latecomers 5 minutes passed the start of class.

Maja Wampuszyc moved to NYC from Detroit to be an actress. “The healing power of art has always inspired me.  That is what brought me to the practice of yoga. Teaching yoga keeps me connected to the beauty of the human condition." Maja is certified in the Original Hot Yoga 26/2 Practice (formerly known as Bikram Yoga) in 2008 and has been teaching for 11 years on an average 150 students a week. She is also certified in the Barkan Vinyasa Method and Yin Yoga with Barbara Leese. She continues to work as an actress, practices and teaches daily.
