Erik Schurink, long-time member of the Writhing Society, will share poems he composes by stacking book titles, and speak of the poetic message in relation to time and personality of place. As a language artist, Schurink enjoys writing with constraints (the practice of the Writhing Society), and with stacking books into poems when he’s visiting a bookstore, a friend, or the library, at home or on the road.
Following his reading he will engage and guide the audience in stacking titles from that day’s book returns, into poems, which can be shared in the open mic, and photographed to share on social media.
Erik Schurink creates interactive exhibitions and evocative art experiences to engage people and build community. As an award-winning designer, he has developed dozens of hands-on exhibits for children’s museums, and interdisciplinary art exhibits for museums, galleries and conferences. He is a long-time member of the Writhing Society, the writing group that meets once a month here at the Info Commons, and he is one of several members who lead the workshop. He was born in the Netherlands, and lives in Brooklyn, New York.
