With this stamp issuance, the U.S. Postal Service® celebrates Ezra Jack Keats’ most beloved story, The Snowy Day. Written and illustrated by the celebrated children’s author, it was one of the first prominent 20th-century picture books centered on an African-American child.
Published in 1962, The Snowy Day follows Peter as he wakes up, puts on his signature red snowsuit, then heads outside to leave footprints and tracks in the snow, make snow angels, and build a snowman. In 1963 Keats was awarded the prestigious Caldecott Medal, given annually to the artist of the previous year’s best American children’s picture book.
This is a free ticketed event. Tickets are limited. Please RSVP.
