This workshop will demystify the archival research process, including: a gentle explanation of what an archive really is; an overview of resources available in an archive; tips and tricks for doing research in archives derived from the pedagogical approach of our award-winning Brooklyn Connections educators, including how to read a finding aid and how to reach out to an archive to do research; and a hands-on component that engages participants in doing research with different types of material

This event is part of Research Refracted, a collaborative series co-produced by MoCADA, Weeksville Heritage Center, Archival Alchemy┬«  & the Brooklyn Collection

Brooklyn Collection, Archival Alchemy®, MoCADA, and Weeksville Heritage Center are proud to partner on presenting a workshop series that examines the archive through the lens of the African diasporan artist community in Brooklyn. These programs are intended to demystify the archive as a space, and reveal opportunities for using special collections and associated bodies of knowledge for research, critical inquiry, and supporting an art practice.
