2019 marks the 200th birthday of Walt Whitman, America’s literary radical and great poet of democracy.

For this occasion, Brooklyn Public Library is partnering with the Walt Whitman Initiative to host public readings of the poet’s Crossing Brooklyn Ferry in libraries across the borough on his birthday, May 31st.

Children, teens and adults are encouraged to join us for this celebration of Brooklyn’s own signature poem by reading aloud with their fellow Brooklynites.

If you would like to sign up to read parts of the poem for this event, please contact 718.486.6006.
