arts and crafts fiber arts grab and go kits summer reading

In this 1.5 hour virtual workshop for kids and families, participants will learn how to make paper at home. The workshop will cover how to make a mould, how to pull and couche a sheet, as well as how to press and dry sheets at home. Participants will also learn which fibers work best for home papermaking, and how to incorporate creative techniques into the papermaking process to make paper-based artworks. Registrants will be supplied with grab & go kits that include all the materials needed to create paper. Because papermaking can be a little technical, we recommend adult assistance for children ages 8 and younger.

The Zoom link for this event will be sent the day before the event. Registrants will be able to pick up supplies for the event at the Brooklyn Heights Library at CBH one week before the event.

Note: If you’d like to add inclusions to your paper, make sure inclusions are not thicker than a nickel or any larger in circumference than a dime. Tissue-paper confetti, dried plant matter such as flower petals, and loose leaf tea all work great as inclusions.

This workshop will be led by Brooklyn based non-profit, Dieu Donné Paper Mill in partnership with Brooklyn Public Libraries. Dieu Donné is a non-profit cultural institution dedicated to serving established and emerging artists through the collaborative creation of contemporary art using the process of hand papermaking.
