The Macon Pageturners read and discuss fiction and non-fiction from across the African Diaspora. We meet every first and second Friday online.

This August we’re reading Citizen: An American Lyric by Claudia Rankine.

Questions? Email Sheena at [email protected]

ABOUT THE BOOK. Through prose, poetry and art, Rankine chronicles U.S. racial aggression and violence. Claudia Rankine is a Jamaican-born poet, playwright, educator and multimedia artist. Critic Tess Taylor calls the text "the perfect book to appreciate the racial dynamics at play today.”

WHERE TO FIND IT. Citizen is available from the Brooklyn Public Library in eAudioBook, eBook, and physical formats. Recorded readings are also available on YouTube.

Note: This program is offered through the African American Heritage Center (AAHC), housed at the Macon Library. AAHC programs are open to anyone, and everyone, interested in celebrating, exploring, and discussing the African Diaspora. If you have questions please contact Sheena at [email protected]

All AAHC virtual programming will take place via Zoom. For optimal participation, you will need either a computer with audio and webcam or a telephone. A link and number to access the meeting will be sent to registrants one hour before the meeting, so please keep an eye out for the email (and check your spam folder if you don't see it!).
