BPL Presents live music Night in the Library

We will be talking a little bit about the value of mending in our over consumed world and the different visual desires from mending. We like to use a simple, easy access method, that prioritizes visibility, longevity and wearability with large patches simply attached by machine.  The patches often produce a graphic addition to the style of the garment, and make it unique. We will be demonstrating on garments we bring with us and hope to show you how to mend any garments you bring with you, and do a full mend if we can with our denim and canvas patches. We can also bind worn edges with a lightweight chambray. We love clothing and look forward to extending and adding to the value of existing clothing, rather than buying new.

Jenny Cooper, Owner, IXV Coffee. After working as a clothing designer for major brands it became apparent that we don’t need more clothing, we need to repair, change and evolve the clothing and materials that already exist. Mending can be hidden repair or, as we like it, as a visible enhancement to the garment, a modification that increases the value and look of a thing and allows it to continue its function.  We are bringing workwear fabric patches and our sewing machine to the BPL to demonstrate simple ways to mend your clothing and make it live into the next generations.  We will focus on patching with denim, canvas and chambray.  Bring your hole-y pants and jackets and we will help restore beloved garments with a new visibly mended style.

IXV is a small no waste coffee shop in Boerum Hill, dedicated to reducing and eliminating the waste from drinking coffee, promoting reusable cups and working with their community to reduce waste in daily life. Jenny also runs a small mending and redesign studio out of the coffee shop, working with old friends the industry to help reduce waste and create one of a kind pieces.

*In addition to her workshops, Jenny will be offering mending assistance from 8:30 - 10:30. Please bring a piece of clothing in need of repair.
