In this interactive workshop, come to a shared understanding of what participatory budgeting (PB) is and how it builds power in schools, learn about how it’s been working in schools from Phoenix to Brooklyn, and kick-start planning to bring PB to your school or school district. You’ll leave with key tools, tips, opportunities, next steps, and new connections to support you as you reshape action civics and democracy. (CTLE Credits: 1.5)
By the end of the training, participants will:
- Be familiar with the initial steps to bring PB to their schools
- Understand how participatory budgeting can strengthen their school community
- Be aware of resources and opportunities including NYC DOE and State Education programs
Trainer: Participatory Budgeting Project
Participatory Budgeting Project (PBP) is a nonprofit organization that empowers people to decide together how to spend public money, primarily in the U.S. and Canada. Since 2009, we have created and supported participatory budgeting processes that deepen democracy, build stronger communities, and make public budgets more equitable and effective.
