Getting Old and Getting Out In New York City with Herb Bardavid
Living in NYC can be easy or hard for older people with disabilities. Crossing the street, avoiding pedestrians, and squeezing past can be frightening. Sidewalks are often congested, uneven and broken. Doors are heavy to open especially when using a walker or scooter. However, living in NYC also means easy access to supermarkets--and those that deliver; pharmacies, doctors and hospitals; parks and kneeling buses. What a phenomenal place to live.
Herb Bardavid has been travelling around NYC photographing older people and listening to their stories and publishing them on his blog. His goal is to make elderly visible through shared photography. Engaging and listening to their stories has made stronger connections.
This event is free and open to the public, but seating is limited and you must register. For more information and to register email andi.gnps@gmail.com
Services for Older Adults is partially funded by Coordinated Outreach Library Services aid from the New York State Education Department, administered by the State Library’s Division of Library Development.
