Alice Walker's novel brought to the screen by director Steven Spielberg released in 1985.      The Color Purple is an American coming of age story of an African American teenager, Celie Harris,  in Georgia who is raped and abused by her father.   Starring Whoopi Goldberg, Danny Glover, Oprah Winfrey and Laurence Fishburne.
