brooklyn history business Juneteenth Virtual Programming

Travel with us on an interactive tour through the decades highlighting successful New Yorkers of African descent. Stacey Toussaint, the founder of award-winning Inside Out Tours, will guide us through an experience that introduces several industrious individuals who claimed ownership of their lives against all odds.

Among others, you will learn about James Foley who after being a prisoner of war in Wallabout Bay, near the current Brooklyn Navy Yard, became a successful business owner. We’ll visit many sites including the location of the home of businessman David Ruggles who rescued Frederick Douglass on the Underground Railroad.

We hope you’ll join the Business & Career Center for this unique virtual Juneteenth event with Inside Out Tours, a first place winner of BPL's PowerUP! Business Plan Competition.

Please note that you may register for this event up until one hour before it starts. You will receive the Zoom link via email one hour before the event.

BPL's Business & Career Center is generously supported by Dime Community Bank, Lead Funder of the PowerUP! Business Plan Competition, Dr. Beverly S. Jacobs, Ridgewood Savings Bank, Con Edison, Reference Solutions, Elizabeth Crowell & Robert Wilson and Signature Bank.
