The late NEA Jazz Master, pianist and composer Randy Weston brought his legendary talents and wisdom to stages around the world, including Brooklyn Public Library’s, and recorded over 40 albums. “Echoes of Rhythm” is a global trio with acclaimed musicians Min Xiao-Fen, Maalam Hassan Benjaafar and Alex Blake. All of them were Mr. Weston’s long-term collaborators. The concert features interpretations of his music as well as their own compositions inspired by him.
The New York Times calls Ms. Min “fearless...a pipa player like no other.”
Mr. Benjaafar is artistic director of the acclaimed Innov Gnawa, a Grammy-nominated musical collective dedicated to exploring Morocco's venerable Gnawa music tradition.
Mr. Blake is one of the most compelling bassists in the world today and is well-known for his work with Mr. Weston, Manhattan Transfer, Dizzy Gillespie and Pharoah Sanders, among many others.
The concert will be followed by an on-stage interview with the musicians by Wall Street Journal Jazz critic Larry Blumenfeld.
No children under 6 will be permitted.
