2020 census

Brooklyn Public Library, NYC Census, and YMCA of Greater New York invite you to Call Out the Count, a special 2020 Census phone banking party this Thursday, August 13. This is a virtual event featuring music and special guests, focused on reaching some of the lowest self-response neighborhoods in Brooklyn (see maps). We encourage all to attend and share!

Right now, Brooklyn’s self-response rate is at 52.4%. Brooklyn is still LAST among the five boroughs of NYC and still one of the lowest-responding counties in New York State. With less than two months left to get Brooklyn counted, we need everyone to pitch in! An undercount puts our political representation and our fair share of billions of dollars in federal funds at stake.

One way to help is by signing up to "Get out the Count" for Thursday’s event. Using a pre-written script and a “predictive dialer” online tool you will be able to call dozens of Brooklynites in neighborhoods with the lowest self-response rates, and patch them through directly to the U.S. Census Bureau so they can fill out the census over the phone.

From 11:30am-2pm, we kick-off with calls to Spanish-speakers and music from DJ Cali Torrez. From 2:30-5pm, English-speaking calls, and from 5:30-8pm, a grand finale featuring more special guests, and music from DJ Annie Red.

You will need a phone and a computer to participate – and training will be provided. We hope to see you there!
