On the eve of the great depression and with her last $60.00 Patricia Murphy turned a closing eatery in Brooklyn Heights into a restaurant empire, adding locations in Manhattan, Long Island, Westchester and Florida.  In "Popovers and Candlelight: Patricia Murphy and the Rise and Fall of a Restaurant Empire" author Marcia Biederman explores the life and career of this pioneering restauranteur who flourished in a male-dominated field, creating unique and elegant experiences with hearty American dishes, beautiful decor, and popovers.
