AMYRA is a musician, author, director and Harlem native, seamlessly transcending genre and medium. A creative force with an unmatched range and ever poetic lyricism, her power behind the mic is undeniable. Her work, often autobiographical, tends to generational trauma, Black liberation and communal healing. In honoring the intricate terror and wonder of her own history, she invites us to reckon with our own.

Celebrated in the NAACP Image Award nominated series PBS: American Masters In the Making, Strange Grace: The Life and Art of Amyra León is an intimate portrait of her remarkable journey of becoming. It is one of few places where León’s dynamic artistry is presented in one place.

Amyra's debut album WITNESS is available on all streaming platforms & her critically acclaimed books - Freedom, We Sing [Flying Eye Books 2020] and Concrete Kids [Penguin Random House 2020] are available wherever books are sold. Her third book, Darling, will be published with Candlewick in 2022.

Amyra composed Una Mujer Derramada in collaboration with Sivan Eldar commissioned by and performed with Lisbon's Gulbenkian Orchestra, the Montpellier National Opera, and the Paris Chamber Orchestra. Amyra was honored to perform the composition as the sole vocalist with all three orchestras. Her latest composition and short film MANA SKY, was commissioned by National Sawdust and premiered on PBS.

She is the inaugural recipient of the Battersea Arts Centre Phoenix Award which led to the 2019 London premiere of her debut play VASELINE, co-commissioned by Arts Council England. VASELINE will return to the stage in 2023.
