BPL is hosting a book discussion group on George Orwell's 1984 every month for 48 months. Sessions began in January 2017. Each discussion cycle will be facilitated by a librarian, writer, community member, artist, etc. If you are interested in facilitating a 1984 discussion, please contact us for information on setting it up.

The October cycle will meet for three consecutive weeks on Thursday October 12th, October 19th, and October 26th. All three sessions will be held in the upper program room in the Youth Wing on the first floor of the library on the Eastern Parkway side of the building.

Our guest facilitator for October will be Kameelah Janan Rasheed. Kameelah is a Brooklyn-based interdisciplinary artist, former high school public school teacher, and writer working in installation, photography, printmaking, publications, and performance. In addition to her full-time work as a social studies curriculum developer for New York public schools, she is currently an artist-in-residence at Smack Mellon and on the faculty in the MFA Fine Arts program at the School of Visual Arts. She has exhibited her work at Jack Shainman Gallery, Studio Museum in Harlem, Bronx Museum, Queens Museum, Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture, among others. Rasheed has forthcoming solo and group shows in Philadelphia, Boston, Portland, and New York City for 2017 as well as 2018.
