In August 1619, between 20 and 30 enslaved Africans were brought to Jamestown, Virginia, and then sold to colonists. 2019 marks the 400th anniversary of this event.
To celebrate the millions of enslaved Africans whose labor, creativity and endurance have contributed greatly to the prosperity of this great nation, the Mill Basin Branch will host a series of special programs, from October - December, 2019.
The second of our "1619" offerings is a thought-provoking presentation, "African American Inventors Who Changed the World". Try to imagine life without dry cleaning, TV home security, or affordable shoes? Come in to learn more about these and other creative innovations!
