In August 1619, between 20 and 30 enslaved Africans were brought to Jamestown, Virginia, and then sold to colonists. 2019 marks the 400th anniversary of this event.
To celebrate the millions of enslaved Africans whose labor, creativity and endurance have contributed greatly to the prosperity of this great nation, the Mill Basin Branch will host a series of special programs, from October - December, 2019.
The first of our "1619" offerings is for Storytime on October 26th at 11:30am.
Come in for a reading of Faith Ringgold's children's book, "Tar Beach" (winner of the Parents' Choice Gold Award).
Afterwards we'll be crafting a paper quilt...all are invited!
