Deposit Collection Cards

Deposit Collection cards are library cards that allow you to borrow more books for longer periods of time. They are available to classroom teachers if enough items are available in our collection. The lending rules are as follows:

  • 90 day loan period
  • Items will be renewable up to five times
  • Holds will be allowed, including periodicals
  • DVDs and CDs can be borrowed on a case by case basis (reserved for serving special needs clients)

Contact your nearest library about establishing a Deposit Collection card.

Refresh your school's recommended reading lists with high-quality and fun titles recommended by the public library. Before assigning a book to your class always check the library catalog to be sure we have enough copies for your students.

Digital Resources

Articles & Databases

BPL subscribes to dozens of online databases, which connect visitors with encyclopedias, newspaper and journal articles, eBooks and other sources of high quality information, including BookFlix, Encyclopedia Britannica Online for Kids, and Student Resource Center. Unlike a Google search, which can lead your students to information that is outdated, inaccurate or biased, these databases will help your students find articles and information that are fact-checked, peer-reviewed, and/or age-appropriate. In other words, you can feel confident directing your students to them for research and homework assignments. All you or your students need to access this treasure trove of knowledge is a library card barcode number and an internet connection.

Visit our Databases for Kids subject guide for a list of databases specifically for school age students.

Your students can download popular titles in eAudio Book, eBook, or eVideo format 24 hours a days, seven days a week from our website. More information on Downloadable Media here.

Other Online Resources

Please take advantage of other educational resources on our website:

  • Brooklyn in the Civil War: Games, lesson plans, and an interactive map help introduce students to the Civil War as it was experienced by Brooklynites.
  • Brooklyn Daily Eagle Online:

BPL now offers the full run of the Brooklyn Daily Eagle newspaper, from 1841 to 1955, as a free online resource. Learn more about using this database here, and visit the Brooklyn Collection to explore materials on Brooklyn's rich history, including books, photographs, prints, directories and maps and atlases.
