Get A Library Card
A library card is an invaluable tool for lifelong learning, and we encourage you to sign up your child for a library card as early as possible.
If your child is 12 or under you must sign the child's application and provide a piece of mail with the child's current address. Foster parents and non-custodial parents are considered parents/guardians. You can print out a Children's Library Card Application (PDF) or fill one out at any BPL location.
For more information on getting a library card and borrowing library materials, visit our Get A Library Card page.
If your child’s school is part of the MyLibraryNYC pilot program, click here for library card application for children 12 and under. This application should be returned to the school librarian. If your child is over 13, the application can be done online here.

A fun and easy way for kids under 13 to find books that interest them, and learn the basics of online searching, is to use our Kids' Search catalog. Only books, CDs, and DVDs specifically for kids will show up in the search results.
In addition to books, BPL offers CDs, DVDs, Book & CD Kits, and other materials for the education and enjoyment of children and teens. A library card also gets you or your child access to our collection of Articles & Databases, a great source of subscription-only tools and information. Examples include Bookflix (an online literacy program) and Encyclopedia Britannica Online for Kids.
Your child can download popular titles in eAudio Book, eBook, or eVideo format 24 hours a days, seven days a week from our website. More information on Downloadable Media here.
