Brooklyn Public Library is spreading the word on getting identification.
Having an ID is one of the keys to success. Learn how to apply for a birth certificate, Social Security card and non-driver State ID.

Get Your ID Campaign
This is part of New York City's
Get Your ID campaign known as "ID=".
The goal of the "ID=" project is to help New Yorkers:
- Learn about the types of government-issued IDs
- Understand the importance of having an ID
- Learn how to apply for each type of ID
Young Men's Initiative
This program is part of New York City's Young Men's Initiative which aims to improve the quality of life of young black and Latino men in New York City. While developing this initiative, the Mayor's Office discovered that having a government ID will make it easier for all New Yorkers to:
- Apply for jobs
- Open up bank accounts
- Receive government benefits and services
The Mayor also signed Executive Order 150 that encourages City agencies to help their clients access forms of ID.
Types of Identification
There are many types of government-issued identification. Go to the Get Your ID website to learn how to get the 3 basic forms of ID:
- Birth certificate
- Social Security card
- Non-driver State ID
