IDNYC, ID card

Beginning in January 2015, New Yorkers can apply for a IDNYC card – a municipal identification Card that is available to New York City residents ages 14 and older at the Central Library and other sites throughout the City. 

The Central Library IDNYC enrollment office is by appointment. Book your appointment online or by calling 311.

The new IDNYC Municipal Card comes with a number of benefits, which includes:

  • Access to all City buildings, such as schools and city service agencies
  • Valid identification for interactions with the NYPD
  • Access to the City’s leading cultural institutions, including museums, performing arts centers, concert halls, botanical gardens, and zoos throughout the five boroughs. For a list of participating institutions, please visit http://www1.nyc.gov/site/idnyc/benefits/benefits.page
  • Can be used as a library card at Brooklyn Public Library, New York Public Library, and Queens Public Library. For more information, please speak to a staff member at your local branch.
