Brooklyn Industries owners Lexy Funk and Vahap Avsar reveal how they launched on to the forefront of urban fashion with one mom and pop shop.

As part of its "You Can Do It, Too" entrepreneur series, Brooklyn Public Library (BPL) will be hosting an informative discussion led by the owners of the popular Brooklyn Industries brand, Lexy Funk and Vahap Avsar, at its Business Library, located at 280 Cadman Plaza West, on Tuesday, May 30, 2006 at 6 PM. This event is free and open to the public. Please call 718.623.7000, x4 to reserve your seat.

During this lively lecture, Funk and Avsar will explain how they transformed a leased warehouse in Williamsburgh, which served as both their clothing factory and home, into an original brand that reinvented the way that fashion-conscious New Yorkers perceive clothing. Participants will learn how through innovation, shrewd business tactics, and artistic designs, this pioneering wife and husband business team grew one retail store into several locations throughout the city, providing women and men with cutting-edge clothing at a reasonable price. Their success continues – in addition to several Brooklyn locations, Avsar and Funk now have a store in Manhattan's Soho neighborhood and a successful online shop, www.brooklynindustries.com

While Avsar and Funk's motivational talk informs entrepreneurs of how to build small business dreams into reality, BPL's Business Library is here with a variety of free resources to get them started."

BPL's "You Can Do It, Too" entrepreneur series combines successful business owners' insider knowledge and inspirational stories with information on the great magnitude of free resources available for all aspiring entrepreneurs at BPL's Business Library.
