OVER 40 FREE DELL COMPUTERS GIVEN AT BROOKLYN PUBLIC LIBRARY
Event: Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz, Council Member Vincent Gentile, Brooklyn Public Library's (BPL) Interim Executive Director Dionne Mack-Harvin and Snapple invite over 40 Brooklynites to receive their free Dell Computers that they won through a sweepstakes in conjunction with BPL’s Summer Reading 2006 Program. This contest also provided Brooklynites with the opportunity to submit their own "real facts" to be considered for publication under actual Snapple caps in 2007. Following the awards ceremony, during which all winners will be announced and one the winning "real fact" will be read, the winners and guest speakers will be available for interviews and photographs.

Background: In conjunction with BPL's Summer Reading Program, library users older than 13-years-old who used their Access Brooklyn Cards (ABC) library cards to purchase a Snapple from a vending machine at a BPL location between June 8 and July 31, 2005 were automatically entered into BPL’s "Win A Dell Computer Sweepstakes." Library users could also enter the sweepstakes without purchase by filling out an official entry form.
The "Create Your Own Real Fact Contest" was also held in association
with BPL's Summer Reading Program. This contest invited library users
9-years or older to research, write and submit their own “real fact." The winning entry will appear under actual Snapple caps during 2007 and be among the complete pool of Snapple "real facts" featured during 2007.
Each Dell computer that BPL is giving away comes with a monitor, keyboard and mouse and is a complete Dell Dimension B110 desktop system. The computer comes with a 2.53 GHz Celeron D processor, 512 MB memory, 80 GB hard drive, Windows XP, 17" monitor and a 48X CD-RW/DVD Combination drive.
This contest was made possible through a partnership between Brooklyn Public Library, Snapple Beverage Corp, NYC Marketing Corporation, and Xerox Corporation. It uses the technology of the ABC Card to offer library users and staff refreshing Snapple beverages. Both the ABC Card and cash are accepted at BPL’s Snapple vending machines, with every purchase helping to support BPL.
